"Dis is uh love game. Ah done lived Grandma's way, now Ah means tuh live mine."
This emphasizes that she never really wanted to do things Nanna's way and is glad she can finally do her own thing. This emphasizes that she is grown up and can now make her own choices. She's now ready to follow her heart. Thats what she wanted to do since the begining.

The quote basically says that life is hard for men and easy for woman. Men keep traveling on lost, never knowing whats going on or when/how to stop. Woman can decide what they want to do, if they want to forget they will, but lets say they want to hold a grudge than they decide to remember, and never forget.

pg 112 Mark Twain "There ain't a coward amongst them Sheperdsons-not a one." This is Buck talking about his enemies who he tries to kill, but respects them to no end. He doesn't feel hatred toward them just wants to kill them because of his families feud.
pg 111 Mark Twain "Was it a Grangerford or a Shepherdson?". This is Huck asking Buck how the feud started. Buck dosent even know how it happens but keeps on killing the other family anyway.

pg 75 Mark Twain "I'm unfavorable to killin' a man as long as you can git aroun' it; it ain't good morals". These are two murderers talking about morals. This makes no sense, there talking about how to kill a man as its wrong to kill him with a gun but ok to drown a man.
pg86 "well, den! Dad blame it, why doan' he talk like a man? You answer me dat!" This was Jim and they where arguing why a French person doesn't speak English. This show the simplicity of Jim and how he is more like a child mentally than a man. Showing the gap of education between the blacks and whites in the South.

pg37 Mark Twain "Yes, just as that man has got that son raised at last, and ready to go to work and begin to do suthin' for him and give him a rest, the law up and goes for him." This is a paradox because pap never really raised him. He just left him to laze around and then the widow took care of Huck.
pg 38 "They said he could vote". He is what pap calls a nigger, this shows how racist he is and then he says he'll leave the county if a black person can vote. Latter he says that he was going to vote but was to drunk. So he doesn't even vote and now that a black person can he wont. He is just making excuses of himself for things he wont even do. This shows how insecure he is.

pg33 Mark Twain "and jailed him (pap) again for a week. But he said he was satisfied; said he was boss of his son, and he'd make it warm for him." The dad was jailed, this happens to him so much that its not even considered a bother. Hes happy that he has his son is his again and that he celebrated by getting drunk and jailed.
pg34 Mark Twain "He (judge) reckoned a body could reform the old man (pap) with a shotgun, maybe, but he didn't know no other way." The judge that didn't want to separate pap from his son is now thinking twice about it. Just after spending all this time trying to reform pap and congratulating him, the judge is now mourning him. This tells us there is no more hope for pap.

"Day 2" Emily Dickinson
DYING "And then the windows failed and then I could not see to see" This shows how when your dying and your eyelids close its all over. There is no light at the end of a tunnel (heaven). This also reflects on how Emily Dickinson isn't religious.
"Demur,--you're straightway dangerous, And handled with a chain". People fear things different and usually chain them or lock them up not letting the new (thing) thrive.

THE MINISTERS BLACK VEIL A PARABLE by Nathaniel Hawthorne
"A simple black veil, such as any woman might wear on her bonnet, should become such a terrible thing on Mr. Hooper's face!" The people realize that the veil should not be terifying but it is. The thing symboles death and to have someone always wear it makes it feel like deaths always arowned. People also fear what is strange and unknown to them.
"Our parson has gone mad!" this was said by a man after first seeing the black vail. Not used to seeing the other man with it on and not seeing his face put fear into the other mans heart. He couldent even comprehend what it ment. If he did understand it might have surrounded him with fear for something he has done and does not want to admit.

"SONG OF MYSELF" by Walt Whitman
"The young sister holds out the skein while the elder sister winds it off in a ball, and stops now and then for the knots"; This seem's to be pointing out the unity of family and siblings. For the most part familys usually get along well. In some cases though they argue (knots) but then they get over it and now matter what familly is familly.
"The young fellow drives the express wagon (I love him yet I dont even know him)". This could be multiple things; Whitman might be saying he likes the express wagon driver for all the good he does for the community and low pay. Another case would be Whitman may be gay and fantizize about this person and is afraid to admit the truth. There is no clear way of translating this.

Topic number 3 is my choice.
"Look closely at either “Young Goodman Brown” or “The Minister’s Black Veil” and identify the dominant tone (the author’s attitude) of the short story. Then set about answering how Hawthorne goes about achieving this tone. When writing this paper, you may find it helpful to discuss literary devices and techniques such as foreshadowing, irony, figurative language, narrative pace, etc. Please include a number of quotations to back up your answer."

SING OF MYSELF By Walt Whitman.
"I CELEBRATE myself, and sing myself". This shows independence and that he is celebrating life.
"I loaf and Invite my soul", he sometimes feels the heavinesses and pain all humans do but without his soul he would be nothing. Your soul makes you who you are without it your nothing. He might want to change himself in some ways but would never abandon his soul.

I Hear America Singing By Walt Whitman:
"The mason singing his, as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work". This is one of many things he said in this writing. It shows that the sound of American workers, is in fact there work not the people singing and that is the song of America. The common people working hard to better themselves.

YOUNG GOODMAN BROWN by Nathaniel Hawthorne
"Faith kept me back a while" Faith is the name of his wife but it seems to be more symbolic than that. When he says this it sounds like the hand of faith was the reason for his delay, and that act helped lead to the events that later followed in this reading. B y being held back by his wife and not just leaving it gave him more to think about and more time to think about it.
"replied he of the serpent" This is used to describe his companion. The serpent describes an untrustworthy trickster of evil. As that of which is used in Adam and Eve. This tells the reader his companion is evil and not to be trusted, his words are poison.

"potato blows are as good as violets, as teh farmer thinks. This shows that some people like farmers who value the potato for the walth and food it grants them as much as violets which most common people like for its looks.
"Tide leaves some deposit on these pages as it leavs sand and shells on the shore." This talkes about how the tide when it comes in brings with it shells and sand and then leavs it on the beach. This writer was hoping that is gernal would be washed ashore (figurativly speaking) and be of some use.

Paper topic number 2 "Comparison. Emerson and Thoreau are the most recognizable proponents of Transcendentalism, but each emphasized different features of the movement. Take some aspect of their thought or writing and explore the similarities and differences their works exhibit. In the process, you should arrive at a clearer understanding of Transcendentalism in general and these two writers in particular. Topics to consider include self-reliance, individualism, and the importance of nature."

Selection from Waldon chapter "Where I Lived, and What I Lived For". by Henry David Thoreau
*We do not ride on the railroad; it rides on us.
1. This quote is very important and makes perfect sence depending on how its looked at. Man makes railroad's for transportation and for money but if we didnt desire to travel and expand but just stay at home these railroad's wouldnt be made. By wanting to expand and see new things we create railroads and maintain them. Without these desires though there wouldant be any railroads. So the fact that there are railroads is because of us.
*If you have built a castle in the air, your work will not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them....
2. This tells us that if a person gets an idea and has it in the air dont forget about it try to find away to make the idea work. Use the resources avalible to make the things you desire come true. Dont just right something off like its never going to happen. Work hard and make it happen.

Quotes: 1 and 2 Ralph Waldo Emerson from "Self-Reliance"
1. (A man is relieved and gay when he has put his heart into his work and done his best; but when he has said or done otherwise shall give him no peace.) This quote is very true and can be related to quite easly. When a person has to get a job done and they do it right away they feel acomplished and happy that theyve done the job and done it well and that there labour will be rewarded in the days to come. If a person puts the job off then it keep luming over there heads and they'll never feel completly at peace knowing theres more work to be done.
2. (These are the voices we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaubidle as we enter into the world.) This talks about when a person is alone they start to think aboiut how society is created and how it all works and all the flaws with it. They also think about what they believe in and what sets them apart. As soon as they return to society though these thoughts deminish and they join all the other people to engroused in what there doing to just take a step back and think and become ones self.
Quotes: 3 and 4 Nature from "Nature"
3.(If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the rememberance of the city of God which had been shown.) If the stars only happened everyonce in a while it would be a monumentious event a dazaling display on which preachers and men of god would use as proof of the existance of heaven. We would all stay up at night and just watch them not knowing what to say, just staring in wonder and amazement. By the stars being an everynight thing we do not think to much about them and there not spoken of that much. If they where once in a thousand years then it would be a bigger and more phantastic festivle than anything recorded in the history of the human race.
4.(To speak truley, few adult persons can see nature.) This tells us that as adults we do not have the time to enjoy the simpelar things in life that we did when we where kids. All those summers where time was endless a child often thought and got intune with nature. Once that child grows up though and starts to deal with the corperate world there is no time for these things and he just becomes another pond on the chest board of a majour company.
